Fanny Brice's voyage from being a delicate, forgettable, stage-shy young girl to becoming a national star is enacted in the theater show, Funny Girl. It is based on the happenings in her life that transpired just before, during, and after World War I. Her story happens in her early years in the Lower East Side of New York City, where the young teenager hustles her way through burlesque and vaudeville while hoping to make it big despite being put down by her family and friends who say she isn't beautiful enough to be a star on stage. It also tells the story of her relationship with Nick Arnstein, a charming local whose attraction Fanny finds desirable, as well as the eventual failure of their marriage. The musical presentation at the Virginia/August Wilson Theatre features a number of show-stopping songs like "People" and "Don't Let It Rain on My Parade," which spectators utterly love. Expect incredible cast performances as well as breathtaking visuals.
